We’re a food festival first, which is why we’ve programmed over 15 cooking demonstrations by some of the world’s most talented chefs. But everyone knows that there is more to food than just eating, so we’ve peppered the weekend with special events that go beyond just pleasuring your palate.
4-5:30PM – Animals and Us: From Factories to Sanctuaries
Featuring Gene Baur, Kathy Stevens, Jenny Brown, Sayara Thurston, and Sonia Faruqi. Moderator: Jennifer Hollett.
Outside the realm of wild and companion animals, there exists billions of animals bred annually for use in global industries. For the majority of us, especially those of us who live in urban environments, animal lives intersect with ours only in limited ways. This panel brings together experts who have devoted their lives these animals, from operators of farm animal sanctuaries, to activists who travel the world infiltrating factory farms.
2:15-3:30PM – Gene Baur
Gene Baur is co founder and president of Farm Sanctuary, America’s leading farm animal protection organization. Gene Baur has been hailed as “the conscience of the food movement” by TIME magazine. For 25 years he has traveled extensively, campaigning to raise awareness about the abuses of industrialized factory farming and our cheap food system.
4:30-6PM – Ultra-Athletes
Featuring James Wilks, Rich Roll, Georges Laraque, and an attempt to set a world record by Patrik Baboumian
An unprecedented gathering of some of the top athletes in the world. Period. They also happen to be vegan. An event that will silence any lingering doubts that plant-based diets aren’t suitable for athletes looking to improve their performance.
3PM – Director Q&A: The Ghosts in Our Machine

The Ghosts in Our Machine is a cinematic journey into the places where human and non-human animal lives intersect. Meet film-maker Liz Marshall and view a clip from her feature-length documentary. In this presentation, Liz shares some behind-the-scenes lessons she learned while making Ghosts and answers audience questions.
7PM – Jamie Kilstein
Standup comedian Jamie Kilstein is the only progressive, vegan, atheist, activist comedian you’ve ever seen on Conan O’Brien, makes you laugh, pisses you off, and doesn’t eat animals.
